Snowflake Lights

All lit up on the house. Makes quite a display for all that pass by.

Giant wooden snowfalke

A Bit bigger than my normal project this snowflake is 4ft across. Made from wood strips, wood glue and screws . All snowflakes have hexagonal symetry ( 6 points) that meand you need 60 degrees between each strust from a central point so dig that protractor out. The inner angles of the of the inner hexagon are 120 degrees. the inner hexagon keeps the flake in shape. The lights are then attached with cable ties. I used 240 lights and had just enough. White wire lights would look better but i could only find green. Make sure your lights are for outdoor use if putting the flake up outside.
See the next post for how it looks.

Silver Birch Tree

Made a little tree!
Had the idea for ages  and eventually got the right wood. The tree appears to float in the air a little. Its made from silver birch discs about 75mm thick.

On the back they are stapled with a supporting wooden strut. This is then glued to a birch disc as a stand. No extra decoration needed just the natural wood. Its quite easy to make if you can get the wood discs.

GOD YUL - Good Yule

Having a bit of trouble with images but above is a silver birch GOD YUL , Happy Christmas/ Good Yule in Norwegian,  with tealights.

Hand cut birch slices  are sanded and stencilled letters added and painted white . Slices are m ade flat on one end before being glued and braced with little blocks to stand up  on a wood base Add two tealights and its GOD YUL.

Christmas wreath

I wanted a wreath but one i had decorated myself. I got some wire wreath frame and went scavenging for really bendy twigs and wrapped them round the wire and secured them with thread/twine. Then i sewed some simple white cotton stars and sewed them to the twigs. Add some red snowflakes and red beads. Lastly some battery powered LEDs which i tied on with black thread and a pocket at the back for the battery box. Bit of wire for a hook - et voila, really cheers up the kitchen and looks great on a plain wall.

Its nearly christmas!

Hello, welcome to my blog. Here you 'll find the crafts, makes and cooking  I've been up  to . I ll add tips and help on how to make simple crafts , decorative bits and bobs for your home from painted candles to giant snowflakes.

My little enterprise is called Kay Frarey after my grandmother who was a farmers wife from Norfolk England. A whizz with baking and making.

Its the run up to Christmas so I thought I would start off with with some Christmassy things for the tree. These little stockings I have a painted with acrylic paint and gel pen details in a Nordic pattern. Make you own version with card or take a look at the ones in my Kay Frarey Etsy Shop.
